Belonging between nation-states
How states draw ethnic boundaries, and how people live within, across, and against them.
Welcome.
Thank you for stopping by.
I am a Ph.D. student in Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Born and raised in China, I lived in Seoul for four years before moving to New York in 2023 to begin my doctoral studies.
I study the relationship between people and nation-states, particularly in the context of immigration. I am interested in how states incorporate or exclude immigrants and ethnic minorities, how people respond to state policies, and how ethnic and national identifications endure or change.
To get the data, I draw on in-depth interviews and computational text analysis.
